Why a benefit concert to support St. Jude Community Center?

The First Note
The mission of the St. Jude Community Center is to provide food for the homeless and food-insecure, to house and feed working homeless women, to provide education and counseling to those in need of these services, to foster a deep sense of self-worth and dignity to all our clients, and to house volunteers helping to rebuild New Orleans.
Serving In Harmony
The center serves breakfast and lunch on weekdays; houses homeless working women; provides adult basic education; works with Second Harvest Food Bank to distibute food; houses volunteers staying in the city to help re-build post-Katrina; collaborates with Responsibility House in serving addicts, and so much more.
The Future Sounds Good
Similar to New Orleans Music, St. Jude Community Center embodies a passion for the people, from the people, touching the lives and hearts of thousands every year.

St. Jude Communty Center: Directors Notes
In late January 2006, Sr. Beth began her ministry as Director, providing counseling and advocacy to temporary residents and others seeking help. The Community Center shelter is now exclusively for women. Sr. Beth emphasizes that the shelter is not a hotel, but for those women who come to New Orleans to rebuild their lives. Each of the residents must leave the building by 9 AM each day either to work or to look actively for a job.

There is an obligatory community night each Monday, in which all gather for a meal. During the community night, local groups will often lead seminars on various topics, such as Bible study, knowing your legal rights, parenting, and job searching and careers. Groups find out about the Center; "I don’t have to make calls," Sr. Beth says. "It’s a matter of being open to having people come. The word spreads."
